Frequently Asked Questions
-
What kinds of therapy services do you provide?
I specialize in couples therapy and individual therapy, all of which are held via telehealth appointments.
Family therapy clients are accepted on a case by case basis. This is usually done with a larger therapy team, such as parents in couples therapy or individual therapy for certain members. Limitations of telehealth need to be discussed for this option.
No group therapy or workshop offerings are provided at this time.

What are the types of therapy you have been trained in and use in your work?
I use a variety of theories and intervention styles throughout my work. I have training in different forms of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, trauma-focused therapy, solution-focused therapy, trans-generational therapies, and more.
Specifically for couples, I have been trained in all three levels of Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and I utilize a lot of interventions based in Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy work.

Do you take insurance?
I can only accept insurance directly for individual therapy sessions. I am not able to directly accept insurance for couples or family therapy.
I currently accept Cigna and Blue Cross Blue Shield. The coverage of your insurance is still plan dependent, so please contact your insurance provider for what to expect for your rates.
Some insurance companies allow for partial or full reimbursement of session costs, even for couples and family therapy as well. Again, speak with your insurance provider for more details.
-
Are sessions virtual or in-person?
Currently, I am only offering sessions virtually via telehealth. Sessions are done either by video or audio-only through the platform SimplePractice. Links to the session are sent ahead of the session time.
I opened this practice during the pandemic, so finding a permanent home for in-person sessions will take some time. More updates on this to come.
By special request only, certain sessions can be held in-person. Please contact me for more details about this option.

Which is better for my relationship issues, one of us in individual therapy or both of us in couples therapy?
Truly, this is the most frequently asked question, and it’s not always a straight-forward answer. Briefly, the best change for a couple comes from couples therapy. But individual exploration of perspectives and needs in a relationship can be just as helpful. Please read more on my page detailing other considerations when deciding what is best for your relationship.

Is couples therapy too much for a couple that is only dating?
Couples therapy has been empirically validated to be highly effective for couples in any stage of life or stage of relationship. Navigating dating at any stage of life can be quite difficult, so sessions aimed at building trust, bonding, and proactive communication skills can be rewarding for years to come. Couples therapy doesn’t have to wait until premarital work, or after the kids are born.
Still have questions?
I am always happy to explain more about myself and my work. You may have questions about how therapy can be a helpful for your situation, or you may not be sure how to start exploring what you’re trying to learn. Please feel free to contact me to set up a free 15-minute consultation, and we’ll discuss which options for therapy seem best for you.
